Engineering Support Assistant (Specialist)

Responsibilities

Work with project engineers, tooling and sampling, as well as the ERP and quality system in this engineering support role!

  • Manage the AQP process from kick-off to PAR meeting including facilitating meetings, maintaining project timelines, ensuring checklists and tasks are complete, analyzing and interpreting quality measurements, preparing and issuing updates for customers, and ensuring production packets are created
  • Provide support for sample activities including scheduling samples and getting sampled parts to the metrology lab, participating in tool samples, reporting sample results to the engineer, and sending samples to the customer
  • Maintain sample tracking system and validation database
  • Support engineers by collecting and providing information to internal customers and perform some engineering tasks such as generating engineering change orders, ensuring internal project paperwork is up-to-date once in production
  • Support engineer during customer visits to ensure customer needs are met
  • Interact with external customers on issues not requiring technical information from the engineer such as corrective actions, customer approval/submissions, etc.
  • Assure that all Engineering related SOP’s and WI’s meet quality system requirements
  • Tooling:
       - Work with engineers to identify market-entry projects that should transfer to production at DDC or to another facility
       - Track and communicate project over-run to project leader
       - Help manage outsourced deliverables (machined models, contractors, SLA’s, FDM. etc.)
       - Set up IQMS pre-production projects to track sales, costs and delivery for a project
       - Work with project team to keep costs and planned close dates updated in IQMS on a monthly basis
       - Set-up and help facilitate internal new program kick-off meetings
       - Provide quotations on current accepted business
       - Facilitate order acknowledgement
       - Lead small tool revisions or samples
       - Prepare development status reports
  • Extended travel to other facilities may be required to support business needs
  • Some programs may have vision requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Safety/Environmental:
       - Where applicable, individual is pre-planning safety into work activities to improve performance
       - Proactively identifies safety concerns
       - Complies with Environmental Management System program SOP’s/WI, Policy & Program elements and encourages responsible use of resources
  • Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction
       - Completion of one of the following:
         * Submission of a continuous improvement idea
         * Active participation in a Phillips-Medisize sponsored committee or event
           (Examples include a - Rapid Improvement Event, a 5S/Lean event, Safety
           Committee, Wellness Committee, Recycling Committee, Activity Committee, or
           other Phillips-Medisize sponsored community outreach project/event (United
           Way, Junior Achievement, etc.)

Qualifications - Education & Experience

  • Technical associates degree; or equivalent mix of education and experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in an engineering or customer-related discipline at a plastic injection molder
  • At least one (1) year project management experience
  • Manufacturing Experience

Qualifications - Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient computer skills including ERP systems
  • Working understanding of accounting principles
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Understanding of quality systems and metrology
